Msgr. LoHaving had a spiritual retreat with a universal theme at the start of the year, it was felt that a retreat with a special focus on the Order’s spirituality will benefit members and associates. The search for a Spiritual Director involved in providing spiritual direction for members of the Order was answered in the person of Msgr Estaban Lo.

A one-day retreat was conducted by Mgsr Lo on Sunday, 21 July for members, associates and spouses. The theme of the retreat was “Daily Prayer of the Order”. Mgsr Lo started the retreat by reminding participants that prayer plays an important part in the Order of Malta as it is a Lay Religious Order in the Catholic Church. P1030915The Singapore Association of the Order of Malta celebrated the Patronal Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist on the 23rd June with a solemn Mass in the beautiful chapel of St. Joseph’s Institution International. This year’s celebration is especially significant as it also commemorates the 900th anniversary of the recognition of the Order of St John by Pope Paschal II. Continue reading

IMG_0496This year marks the 900th anniversary of the Papal Bull signed by Pope Paschal II on 15th February 1113 which placed the Hospital founded by the Amalfi knights for pilgrims in Jerusalem, under the aegis of the Church, granting it the right to freely elect its superiors without interference from other lay or religious authorities. By virtue of this Papal Bull, the knights of the Hospital became a lay-religious order now known in full as the Sovereign Military Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta.
